Sexual and Reproductive Health Module for Nurses
This course is split into eight sessions.
- Session 1 aims to help you understand the range and epidemiology of normal sexual behaviour in adolescence. It will also create awareness of the issues relating to gender, sexual identity and implications of chronic illness for sexual function and health.
- Session 2 aims to help you understand how to take a history and provide services to young people who may have been victims of sexual assault.
- Session 3 will review sexually transmitted infection (STI) trends in young people, sexual health promotion and identify factors which place young people at high risk of STIs. It will also describe the different models of sexual health services available to young people and how modernisation of services has improved access and care.
- Session 4 aims to help you identify specific adolescent issues related to the presentation, diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in young people.
- Session 5 describes an evidence based approach to prescribing contraception for adolescents.
- Session 6 looks at teenage pregnancy rates in the UK and identifies the associated risk factors. It explores health outcomes faced by young parents and their children with recommendations as to how health professionals can help improve the lives of young families.
- Session 7 will cover gynaecological symptoms including normal and abnormal menstruation.
- Session 8 discusses the issue of preventing teenage pregnancy in general and will identify the factors which have been shown to reduce levels of teenage pregnancy.

eIntegrity programmes are developed by NHS Health Education England’s e-Learning for Healthcare programme (HEE e-LfH).
The programmes are high quality self-directed learning programmes. They are designed to support training and CPD and are excellent resources alongside other traditional teaching methodologies. They have been developed by the UK NHS for use in the NHS. However, many of the programmes have international relevance, particularly the specialty training programmes which are often mapped to UK specialty training curricula.
