This session intends to highlight the principle methods of caries prevention.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify and diagnose root surface caries
  • Explain the caries disease process
  • Manage dental caries appropriately

In normal, healthy mouths the roots of teeth are covered by the gingivae (soft tissue). However, the accumulation of years of periodontal disease means that more substantial gum recession is likely to take place as an adult gets older.

Oral Surgeon

Following graduation from the University of Birmingham, Zehra worked in general practice in the Birmingham area. She then spent a year as a restorative SHO in the Eastman Dental Hospital.

Following this, Zehra undertook an oral surgery post, with maxillofacial surgery on call commitments.

In addition to this, Zehra also treats both adult and paediatric patients with the adjunct of sedation, as a means of anxiety management.
