This session will help guide you through recognising the conditions which may require more expert help. It will help you differentiate between the conditions which will require urgent medical attention to non-urgent dental care.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • explain the model of care for adult oral surgery patients
  • list when the patient may require emergency medical treatment
  • describe which conditions a GDP may be expected to treat in their practice

In essence, a referral is a request from an appropriate colleague for assistance regarding a patient. Referrals can be:

  • from primary care to secondary care
  • between colleagues in secondary care

Gezala is an Associate Specialist, currently employed at Kings College Hospital as an Oral Surgery Specialist.

Gezala has a special interest in the high risk third molar. She also has skills in difficult cannulation and paediatric sedation.

Gezala teaches medical emergencies to dental staff both within the Trust and externally. She is also an examiner for both ORE and MJDF.
