Recruitment, Selection and Retention course for Dental Practice
This session outlines the principles for the recruitment, selection and retention of staff.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the different stages of the recruitment and selection process
- Construct a good job description and person specification
- Develop strategies for recruitment and retention
- Identify what attracts people to apply for jobs
Application forms make it easier to compare one applicant with another and concentrate screeners on objective factors rather than on presentation.
The selection process may be a combination of interview and assessment based on competency. It should always be objective and based on criteria set out in the person specification.

Joanne is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development with over 20 years’ of senior HR experience. She has a proven track record of operating at a strategic level, along with substantial HR operational experience spanning the full range of HR services. She has strong credentials in the areas of employee relations, policy development and the interpretation of employment legislation.
Main areas of responsibility have encompassed HR strategies, employee relations, change management, training, job evaluation, recruitment, writing policies and procedures, employment legislation, discipline, health & safety, personnel systems, communications and Investors in People.
Joanne has worked on a number of projects such as advising small companies on all aspects of people management. Additionally, she has completed assignments being a retained/interim HR professional for small to medium sized businesses including the NHS.
