Pre-Travel Advice course for GPs
This session is the first in a series of sessions about travel advice for patients and provides a broad overview of the issues GPs must consider when advising patients before they travel.
This session was reviewed by Khyati Bakhai and last updated in November 2020.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Perform an individualised risk assessment and communicate the risks to would-be travellers
- Explain the concepts of risk avoidance, limitation and elimination with reference to travel health
- Advise travellers when vaccination is mandatory
There are around 70 million visits abroad each year from the UK and as a general practitioner (GP) you will inevitably be asked for advice by would-be travellers.
Before commencing this session you should:
- Have a basic undergraduate knowledge of travel medicine
- Have a basic understanding of the concepts of risk assessment and risk limitation
