The session looks at the nature of childhood inattentiveness and impulsiveness and how adults may react to these behaviours in children.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify the kind of problems that present as inattentiveness and/or impulsiveness
  • Describe the distinction between inattentiveness and impulsiveness compared to associated problems such as anxiety and disobedience
  • Describe the impact of inattentiveness and impulsiveness on children’s development
  • Identify reactions of adults to children’s impulsiveness and inattentiveness
  • Offer advice, understanding and knowledge of when to refer for specialist help
  • Give information about the nature of specialist help available
