This session focuses on nutritional recommendations for women before and during pregnancy.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the dietary recommendations for optimising fertility and fetal well-being including pre-natal vitamin supplementation
  • Describe what eating well looks like for women in pregnancy
  • Describe the additional nutritional challenges for some at-risk groups in the UK

The health of both men and women pre-conceptually can impact on fertility, conception and determine fetal growth, development and birth outcomes, Both men and women should be offered pre-conception advice on weight management and alcohol consumption, and a healthy balanced diet is recommended for both partners.
