Multidisciplinary Management of Chronic Pain course
This session describes the management of chronic pain by using non-pharmacological treatment and integration of medical, psychological and activity management strategies across a multidisciplinary team.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain how the biopsychosocial model creates opportunities for therapeutic intervention in chronic pain
- Describe the aims of the treatment of chronic pain
- Describe the role and responsibilities of the members of the multidisciplinary team in pain management
- Critically appraise the evidence base for the multidisciplinary management of chronic pain
- Select appropriate methods for assessing outcome of treatment
Chronic pain is a complex sensory, emotional, cognitive and behavioural long-term health condition. Patients often have complex multidimensional problems, which require a multidisciplinary approach.
