Microabrasion course for Dental Practice



This session reviews the indications for microabrasion and describes the techniques used to carry out this procedure.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Identify the common causes of intrinsic tooth staining
- Identify two contraindications to carrying out microabrasion
- List five items used during the microabrasion process
- List two types of treatment used to further reduce the visibility of tooth stains after microabrasion
Some teeth develop small white or brown mottled lesions for a number of reasons. When they affect the upper anterior teeth in the aesthetic zone, patients often ask about treatment options.
Before commencing this session you should have a basic knowledge and experience of:
- Enamel histology and structure
- Tooth bleaching techniques
Professor Rees is a restorative dentist based at Cardiff University Dental School. His research interests are in dental materials, tooth whitening, tooth wear and dentine sensitivity. He is part of the ’Mineralised Tissue Biology in Repair and Regeneration of the Dental Tissues’ Research Group at Cardiff.
He is also part of Module Editorial Team at e-Den, heading up Module 8 Restoration of Teeth, and Module 9 Replacement of Teeth.
