This session provides an overview of some of the clinically important respiratory challenges you may come across as a dental practitioner.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- describe the physiology, relevant anatomy and pathology of respiratory diseases
- describe the range of respiratory problems that may present in dental practice
- recognise signs and symptoms of respiratory patients in the dental practice setting
- state the impact that drugs used in the treatment of such patients may have upon dental care provision
- describe the impact of respiratory conditions on the provision of dental care
Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of:
- basic respiratory anatomy and physiology
Respiratory disease is the 2nd most common cause of morbidity and mortality in the western world.
In this session, we cover asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), 2 commonly occurring diseases.
We will highlight the basic principles of these conditions and how they may impact your dental practice.
