Mandibular Movements course for Dental Practice



This session looks at occlusion and mandibular movements and helps explain the meaning and practical significance of different terms and ideas.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- recognise the different static relations of the maxilla and mandible
- describe centric relation
- explain the concepts of mandibular guidance
This session looks at occlusion and the mandibular movements in the chewing cycle, and defines each of the elements with the correct terminology.
Before commencing this session you should have:
- basic knowledge of the anatomy of the joints and muscles of mastication
Dr Dominic Stewardson has been a lecturer in conservative dentistry at the school of dentistry in Birmingham since 2000. Prior to this he spent several years in general dental practice and in specialist training posts across the UK and in the USA. He is a specialist in restorative dentistry and fixed and removable prosthodontics. His research interests include fibre-reinforced endodontic posts, endodontic treatment standards, and surface modification of restorative materials and he helps co-ordinate a general practice research group (BRIDGE) in the West Midlands.
