Since some high-profile cases, agencies that deal with young people have an increased responsibility to work with each other to improve outcomes for young people who misuse substances. This session outlines the responsibilities of some of the agencies involved and suggests current assessment, screening and management models. This session will be most useful for GP's or those working in the community.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Distinguish how different agencies are involved in the management of substance misuse
  • Describe the role of primary care in the management pathway for children and young people

In March 2005, the Department for Education and Skills (now Department for Education) and the Home Office published a joint strategy supported by the Department of Health linking the Every Child Matters programme and the National Drug Strategy for Young People
