This session will describe the initial management of women with impalpable implants, including a case scenario.

For consistency we have adopted the FSRH Clinical Effectiveness Unit's guidance. This guidance may differ from the manufacture's summary of product characteristics and patient information leaflet.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the reasons for having impalpable implants
  • Determine management of an impalpable implant
  • Assess current and future need for contraceptive cover
  • Recognise referral pathways and refer on

The implant needs to be inserted correctly to ensure a smooth removal process.
