This session will identify the side-effects associated with the use of hormonal contraceptives and offer guidance on how to manage these side-effects to encourage concordance with the method of choice.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • 5.2.1 State the possible side-effects from contraceptives
  • 5.2.2 Describe the management options for women with side-effects of contraception

Combined hormonal contraceptives (CHCs) and progestogen-only (PO) contraceptives can impact on almost every system of the body and cause a range of potential side-effects.
