This session looks at the different types of orthodontic appliances used in current orthodontic practice and some of the problems which may be associated with them.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • List the commonly used orthodontic appliances and the problems associated with them
  • Describe management strategies to overcome common problems to be used in everyday practice

This session looks at the most commonly used orthodontic appliances and their components. It will describe which of these components are most likely to cause problems and ways and means of dealing with such problems. It is to be remembered that common problems are just that - common, however, the principles learned as part of this session could be adapted and used as a knowledge base if faced with a more unusual problem.
