Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Give balanced, safe and sensible advice to travellers to malarial areas
  • Give accurate, individualised advice on the use of drug prophylaxis
  • Identify symptoms of malaria in the returning traveller

Malaria is a disease of the tropics and sub-tropics and is endemic in over 100 countries.

Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

Before commencing this session you should:

  • Have knowledge of malaria to an undergraduate medical degree standard
  • Understand the basic principles of risk assessment and be able to apply them to malaria

Nick Jones,
GP and Trainer

Nick works in general practice in Midsomer Norton, Somerset.

He developed an interest in travel-related disease whilst on a year-long sabbatical in 1995 during which he contracted dengue fever. He went on to write the Rough Guide to Travel Health and has subsequently written numerous articles on travel health for both the medical and lay press.

Nick is a content author for the e-LfH programme.
