Making Decisions course for Dental Practice
This session will explore how to use your professional values, and the evidence to make good decisions.
Learning Objectives
This session will support you to:
- Participate in and contribute to organisational decision making processes
- Act in a manner consistent with the values and priorities of your organisation and profession
- Educate and inform key people who influence and make decisions
- Contribute a clinical perspective to team, department, system and organisational decisions
Decisions are made within healthcare on a daily basis which can have significant impact on the services provided to service users. It is the responsibility of healthcare workers to ensure that they are involved in the decision making process to ensure that the needs of service users remain a high priority and that they can actively shape the healthcare system of tomorrow.

Jean qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1991, and worked within Orthopaedics and Trauma nursing in Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust until 2007, when she moved into the field of healthcare education, working as a Practice Learning Facilitator. The main focus of this role is quality assurance of practice learning for all healthcare students. Jean has also worked as a Lecturer Practitioner in adult nursing at Huddersfield University, and is currently an Associate Lecturer with the Open University. She completed her MSc in Health Professional Education in 2010, and is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate in Nursing.
