Lifestyle Considerations course



This session aims to outline how type 1 diabetes impacts on the lives of children and young people and their associated lifestyle considerations.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain the impact of diabetes on families
- List the issues surrounding diabetes management at school
- Explain the impact of exercise on blood sugar levels
- Outline the advice that needs to be given to the child, family and other healthcare professionals on blood glucose management during exercise
- Describe the impact of diabetes on other aspects of a young person's life such as driving, work, etc
This session outlines how type 1 diabetes impacts on the lives of children and young people (CYP) and their associated lifestyle considerations.

Before commencing this session, you should complete:
- Management of Blood Glucose (172-17)
- Abnormal Blood Sugar Levels and Hyperglycaemia (172-18)
Jan is National GRID Trainee in Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham and NIHR Academic Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.
He has been awarded with a PhD on his thesis on the molecular regulation of androgen biosynthesis in 2015.
He is interested in androgen excess and deficiency conditions, obesity and early markers of metabolic disease progression.
