Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify the basic elements of young people friendly services
  • Identify the importance of young people specific services and the relevant policy context
  • Outline the evidence for specific young people focused services
  • Identify your strengths and key training needs in your own practice in relation to effective young people friendly services

Instructors / Speakers
Neil Davidson,
Paediatric Speciality Trainee

Neil is a paediatric speciality trainee (ST7) with an interest in adolescent health care. He is currently based at Culture Lab, Newcastle University, completing a PhD in Computing Science as part of a NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship. Neil’s research is exploring how technology may support the health and well-being of adolescents with long-term health conditions. This research recognises that adolescents must be partners in any research or service design aimed at them and that young people have a great deal to teach health care professionals about how to work with them.

Neil is leading on the development of the Young Person’s Advisory Group North of England so that children and young people can have their say in research involving their peers.

Neil has been training and working in the North East since 1998 and has developed a passion for the health and rights of young people both through his clinical work and over a decade of experience in voluntary youth work and mentoring of young people.
