Introduction to the pelvic floor during pregnancy
The aim of this session is to enhance awareness of the pelvic floor muscle complex, with particular reference to the effects of pregnancy and childbirth on mechanism and function. It also covers the principles of teaching pelvic floor exercises, without a prior digital assessment, and the importance of maintaining maternal levels of general fitness.

An introduction to the pelvic floor during pregnancy
Your pregnant women and people are about to go on an exciting journey from becoming pregnant through to giving birth. These women will see a lot of changes happening to their bodies at quite a rapid rate. Some of these changes will be expected, some will be a surprise, especially if this is their first pregnancy. Don't underestimate how these changes, along with childbirth, can affect the physical and mental health of the people in your care.

This elearning session recognises the importance of providing inclusive, respectful care to all pregnant people and their families. Throughout the session both medical terminology and accepted common words have been used alongside each other.

The language you use when speaking to pregnant people is important. It is important that you convey the information in a way that is accessible and easily understood by the people you are having these discussions with, otherwise they will not comply with their exercises.
