Introduction to Abortion and Pregnancy Options
This workshop aims to bring together professionals wanting to learn more about reproductive health care and the provision of compassionate abortion care. To increase individuals’ confidence in being able to talk to people about pregnancy options and abortion care.
This workshop aims to build your skills and confidence in talking with individuals about their pregnancy options. This workshop will explore the history of sexual and reproductive health in Australia, what abortion provision looks like throughout the country and who Children by Choice is. The workshop will also cover key theoretical concepts within the reproductive rights movement, such as reproductive justice and intersectionality.
Throughout the workshop, we encourage participants to engage in several personal reflections and value clarification activities to help deepen individual learning. This workshop also covers areas of myth-busting and discusses the different ways in which people might find themselves wanting to discuss their pregnancy options.
This workshop also introduces participants to the principles surrounding compassionate abortion care and the different types of abortions a person may have access to in Australia.
On completion of this workshop, you will:
- Have an understanding of key theoretical frameworks which underpin the reproductive rights movement, such as intersectionality, reproductive justice and feminist theory.
- Be able to articulate the difference between abortion care and compassionate abortion care.
- Have a greater understanding of abortion provision in Australia, and the history of sexual and reproductive health in Australia.
- Be able to identify myths regarding abortion and abortion provision.
- Have a deepened understanding of your own values and beliefs around abortion.
Note: While an intersectional lens has been embedded across this training, there is also a section of our online module which further explains intersectionality and its relationship to reproductive rights. It is assumed that everyone attending CbyC training has completed the short online information module before commencing the training.
Workshop aims
To bring together professionals wanting to learn more about reproductive health care and the provision of compassionate abortion care. To increase individuals’ confidence in being able to talk to people about pregnancy options and abortion care.
Workshop structure
This workshop is run online for over four hours and is divided into three sections, an introduction to key theories which underpin reproductive justice, a reflection on values and an introduction to compassionate abortion care. There will be plenty of breaks and time for discussions and activities throughout the training. It is expected that participants will have their cameras on throughout the training.
Time and assessment
This workshop will take approximately 4 hours and it is estimated that the online module will take under 60mins to complete.
On completion of this workshop, a Certificate of Completion will be issued.
Target audience
This workshop is for anyone new to reproductive and sexual health, in particular pregnancy options and abortion provision.
Each delivery is capped at 25 participants. Minimum numbers apply in order for the scheduled training to proceed. We also have several scholarship positions for the training.
