Introduction: Attaining and Maintaining Safeguarding Competences course for GPs
This introduction sets the scene for eight further Level 3 Safeguarding Children and Young People sessions. Each session examines a common safeguarding scenario. You will explore what safeguarding children means for you as a member of clinical staff working with children, young people and/or their parents/carers and how you work with others to protect children and promote their health and well-being.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you should be able to:
- Define your role as a health care professional in relation to safeguarding children
- Identify any gaps in your current level of knowledge and skills in relation to safeguarding children
Before commencing this session you should:
- Have completed equivalent uni- or multi-agency training at level 2 and be able to demonstrate competence at that level
- Be working with children, young people and/or their parents/carers, contributing to assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the needs of a child or young person and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding/child protection concerns
The sessions in this module will address many but not all of the competencies required at level 3. These sessions are designed to complement other forms of training at level 3; face-to-face, multiagency and specific training in certain areas, for example, forensic medicine, as set out in the ICD.
