This session describes when to use inlays and onlays, their material science and their clinical application.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • State the advantages of porcelain over other types of inlay and onlay materials
  • Explain how the manufacturing process for Empress® Esthetic inlays differs from that of CEREC® inlays
  • Compare the longevity of Empress® and CEREC® restorations

Where the intracoronal restoration of a tooth is planned, but the decay or fracture is so extensive that a direct restoration (e.g. amalgam or composite) would compromise the tooth’s structural integrity, the dental practitioner has to consider other treatment options.

Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

Before commencing this session you should:

  • Be able to explain what is meant by ‘bruxism’, ‘axio-pulpal line angle’ and ‘isthmus’
  • Have completed e-Den session in Module 8 Restoration of Teeth/Restoration of Permanent Teeth/Fractured Cusps (141-0326)
