Infection course for Medical Doctors
This session aims to equip practitioners with information so that they can advise on infection-related public health issues and vaccination-related concerns in primary schools.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Summarise relevant issues around hygiene in the primary school setting
- Review immunisation and effective interventions for immunisation in children of primary school age
- Manage both teacher and parental awareness of, and responses to, infectious disease
- Describe the management of cases/outbreaks of meningitis, diarrhoea and vomiting, conjunctivitis, impetigo and other diseases
- Describe the social impact, transmission and management of lice and scabies
This session uses self assessments that help you check what you have learnt. You do not have to use them and your answers are not seen by anyone else.
Dr Rosie Kyeremateng is a community paediatric trainee in the south west of England, with an interest in Public Health and in Children’s Environmental Health. During an internship with the World Health Organization she contributed to the development of the WHO training modules in Children’s Environmental Health, and she is now involved in the development of a Child Rights Curriculum in association with the Open University. Rosie has been involved in a number of school based Public Health activities, including advising for the local policy on Medicines in Schools; research into behavioural interventions in the school setting; and an appraisal of universal services in special needs schools in order to inform a wider Needs Assessment.
