Navigating the Australian Immunisation handbook for clinical use.

The Australian Immunisation handbook is an invaluable resource when administering vaccines as per the National Immunisation program and also with catch-up. This CPD module is a tutorial on navigating the online handbook, locating the information you need, and interpreting this use in clinical practice

Importance of the influenza vaccine in aged care facilities.

Aged care providers have a duty of care and responsibility towards the consumers within their care. This falls under the Aged Care Act 1997 guidelines. The quality of care provided is governed by the Quality Care Principles 2014, which include immunisation schemes for both staff and consumers. Ensuring immunisations across the life span are up to date is important so that we can protect those who are vulnerable and avoid an unnecessary burden within our healthcare system.
In 2019 Australia’s health care system had to face one of the worse flu seasons on record, and many residents living within residential aged care facilities were impacted. During this session, we will be providing you with a refresher on the importance of the influenza vaccine in the aged care setting

Influenza Vaccination 2023.

It is influenza season again, a perfect time for a refresher on who is recommended an influenza vaccination, who is covered under the National Immunisation Program Schedule (NIPs) and which brands are funded in 2023. Frequently asked questions and administration points are also included so that you will be fully prepared and updated on this year’s information to confidently vaccinate this season.
The purpose of this CPD update is to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and resources to best educate and support the vaccination of people with Influenza.

Vaccination for people at Occupational Risk.

Vaccinations for the various occupational groups is essential as some of these workers, for example, healthcare workers and carers, work with vulnerable people, e.g., people =65 years of age, children and people who are immunocompromised. If these workers are unvaccinated against certain infections like influenza and pertussis, they may spread infections to these vulnerable people or they may even contract these diseases from possible exposure to the infection. Therefore it is highly recommended and advised that people at occupation risk for vaccine-preventable diseases get vaccinated as per their employment requirements as well as per the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommendations.
