Immunisation bundle 2- Primary Health
This CPD consists of 6 CPD modules.
Content Type: Elearning module
Tetanus
Providing immunisations within the primary care setting as well as in an emergency department setting is an important component of maintaining individual immunity within the community. Opportunistic vaccination is important and should be undertaken at every opportunity.
Knowing when to administer a Tetanus vaccine can perhaps be complex at times especially if you are unable to find the appropriate immunisation documentation or if the individual is unable to give an accurate immunisation history.
This CPD module offers information on how to overcome these hurdles, especially in an emergency department setting. For some, this may be a refresher in relation to what tetanus is and the importance of looking out for signs and symptoms of this vaccine preventable disease.
Influenza 2023
It is influenza season again, a perfect time for a refresher on who is recommended an influenza vaccination, who is covered under the National Immunisation Program Schedule (NIPs) and which brands are funded in 2023. Frequently asked questions and administration points are also included so that you will be fully prepared and updated on this year’s information to confidently vaccinate this season.
The purpose of this CPD update is to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and resources to best educate and support the vaccination of people with Influenza.
Travel Vaccinations
Travel health medicine is a fast-growing and fast-moving area of clinical practice. All health professionals providing travel health advice need to be familiar with current travel health issues and be able to deliver correct advice using reliable information resources tailored to the individual needs of each traveller. The course provides an introduction and update on travel health focusing on travelling vaccines to ensure that the correct vaccines are given to the clients. Please be aware that completing this CPD course will not change the authorised nurse immunisers scope of practice.
Vaccination in pregnancy
During pregnancy, the pregnant person's immune system is naturally weaker than usual. This CPD will discuss the advice the recommendations for vaccination before and during pregnancy as well as whilst breastfeeding to protect both the mother and baby.
Through this learning module, the student will gain a deeper understanding of prenatal and pregnancy immunisation recommendations
School Immunisation programs
To identify the vaccines scheduled/funded for secondary school students and gaining consent for students prior to attending schools. Preparing for a secondary school immunisation session, care of students during the session and post immunisation. Documentation of vaccines given and follow up for students absent on the day immunisations are provided.
Immunisation for Occupational risk groups
Vaccinations for the various occupational groups is essential as some of these workers, for example, healthcare workers and carers, work with vulnerable people, e.g., people =65 years of age, children and people who are immunocompromised. If these workers are unvaccinated against certain infections like influenza and pertussis, they may spread infections to these vulnerable people or they may even contract these diseases from possible exposure to the infection. Therefore it is highly recommended and advised that people at occupation risk for vaccine-preventable diseases get vaccinated as per their employment requirements as well as per the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommendations.
