Home Environment course
This session focuses on the physical, emotional and social contexts of family life in the twenty first century.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the home environment in terms of the 'Ecological Framework'
- Identify and describe the impact of the physical, emotional and social environment on parenting capacity, child growth and development
- Describe the purpose and principles underpinning Early Help
- Participate in assessment and support of vulnerable families
This session focuses on the physical, emotional and social contexts of family life in the twenty first century.
The session will:
- Describe family life in the home environment
- Examine and explore relationships between the home environment and child and family health
- Introduce the Ecological Framework, which conceptualises relationships between home and health
- Identify those aspects of the home enviroment which can help young children to grow up healthy - physically, socially and emotionally
Before commencing this session, you should:
- Complete the HCP session Family Health/Families in the UK (402-0006)
Mary Malone is the programme leader for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing at King’s College London. She has a background in in general nursing, midwifery and health visiting. Mary’s professional interests include family health, health information seeking, child growth and health inequalities. Her PhD focused on differences in families’ use of the Internet for health information. Mary is a chapter author and module editor for this project.
