Health Promotion course for GPs

This session introduces the concept of health and well-being. It shows how important it is to consider this agenda in the consultation and the obligations of the general practitioner (GP).
This session was reviewed by Khyati Bakhai and last updated in January 2022.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- recognise the role of the consultation in promoting health and well-being
- identify practical ways of embedding health and well-being interventions in everyday consultations
- recognise and manage the tensions arising from conflicts between the doctor’s and patient’s agenda
It is very important to consider promoting health and well-being in the consultation as a key obligation of GPs. In this way, even with brief interventions, a GP can make a big difference to the lives of patients by improving outcomes.
