Course overview
Studying the Graduate Certificate in Digital Health with ACN aims to provide nurses with knowledge and understanding of all aspects of digital health within a professional legal, moral and ethical framework that reflects current best practices.
The course is designed to meet the educational needs of registered nurses working in the diverse digital health environment and who wishes to extend their skills in digital healthcare.
Students are provided with the opportunity to reflect on and critique their experiences considering current literature and research. The course aims to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to clinical leadership.
This course is fully accredited with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and is equivalent to 24 credit points. Students who exit the graduate certificate before completion will receive a statement of attainment for any units that have been successfully completed. The completed course may articulate into a Master’s program of study.
Learning Outcomes
At successful completion of the course students should be able to:

- analyse complex clinical data integrity problems using critical thinking and multiple modes of inquiry
- critically analyse current literature regarding data use and nursing practice in digitalised health environments
- model the skills and abilities that provide a foundation for future leadership roles in digitalised healthcare environments
- critically reflect on personal values and ethics as central to the development of culturally safe practice in digitalised health environments.

Course Structure
The Graduate Certificate in Digital Health is a one year course, consisting of four 10-week terms. Students will need to complete 4 core units. One unit is studied per term. Approximate hours of study are 12 – 15 hours per week.
Admission to GC courses is based on academic merit and selection. In addition, applicants must satisfy any prerequisites or additional requirements specified for particular courses, including ACN’s general eligibility criteria.
All applicants seeking admission are required to:
- hold a Bachelor of Nursing or registered nurse* equivalent qualification
- hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); or the equivalent registering authority in your country of origin
- meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia English language skills registration standard (nursing and midwifery) – please refer to the AHPRA website to download the standard
- have a minimum of one year of postgraduate experience; and
- be currently employed in the clinical area of specialisation*
Please note:Â this course is not available to direct entry midwives.
*For some GC units of study, consideration may be given for applicants who are not registered nurses on an individual basis.
*The below courses contain a compulsory clinical placement component and do not require applicants to be employed in the clinical area of specialisation:
