Factors influencing the use of dental local anaesthesia course for Dental Practitioners
This session will outline factors influencing the management of dental patients with local anaesthetic.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- identify general and specific factors relating to the use of dental local anaesthesia
- discuss the impact of these factors on patient management
There are very few absolute contraindications to local anaesthetic use in dentistry. However, prior to administering dental local anaesthetic there are several factors which must be considered.
Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of:
- pharmacology of the local anaesthetic agents
- maxillary and mandibular local anaesthetic techniques
Andrew Carr (BDS, MFDS, RCSEd) qualified from Newcastle University in 2008 and, after having completed General Professional Training, he is currently a Specialist Registrar in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology at Newcastle Dental Hospital.
Andrew’s interests are in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral Medicine and Dental Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Dr Kathy Wilson is an Associate Specialist in Dental Sedation at Newcastle Dental Hospital.
Currently lecturing in the field of dental sedation and special care dentistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level, Kathy has extensive clinical experience in management of the anxious dental patient.
Kathy is also part of the Module Editorial Team at e-Den, and is Module Editor for Module 3 Anxiety and Pain Control in Dentistry.
