Fabricated or Induced Illness course for GPs
As health professionals, we will often encounter children with difficult to manage conditions.
In such cases, it can be difficult to determine if a child's condition is medical, social or a mixture of both.
Cases involving suspected fabricated or induced illness (FII) can be particularly challenging.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- recognise the alerting signs for possible FII
- describe the implications for paediatricians and other health professionals of guidance on FII
- manage or contribute to an FII case and contribute to the formulation of appropriate plans to ensure the safety of the child, including the planning of admission for assessment of FII
- recognise the stress on the medical and nursing team of working with FII and be able to seek local support and help
Before commencing this session you should:
- have completed equivalent uniagency or multiagency training at Level 2
- have completed the eLfH Safeguarding Children Level 3 introductory session
- be working with children, young people and their parents or carers and be contributing to assessing, planning, intervening and evaluating the needs of a child or young person and parenting capacity, where there are safeguarding or child protection concerns
