Examination of a 50-year-old with a Painful Eye course for GPs
This session uses a video clip to demonstrate how to perform a focused, problem-based physical examination on an adult presenting with eye symptoms in primary care.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Take a targeted history from a patient with pain in the eye
- Perform a targeted examination of the eye
- Learn the basics of using an ophthalmoscope
Patients regularly present to their GP with eye problems. This is estimated at about 1.5% of all GP consultations.
