Mrs. Jo Corbett qualified as a registered learning disability nurse in 1979, spending 3 years in residential care settings, moved to a post as a community learning disability nurse, where she remained for some time.
During mid nineties Jo studied for a BSc in health studies (health promotion) developing an interest in ensuring people with learning disabilities gain equal access to mainstream services that both prevent and treat ill health.
In 2002 Jo was involved in developing a resource pack for health facilitators commissioned by the NHS West Midlands. The work was published in a community nursing journal which subsequently led to the publication of book titled, Health Care Provision and People with Learning Disabilities: a guide for health professionals in 2006.
Since 2004 Jo has worked as a strategic health facilitator working to ensure mainstream health professionals have the skills required to meet the health needs of people with learning disabilities, links with this role and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 has led to an interest in Safeguarding Adults and Jo is currently working as Lead Nurse for Safeguarding Adults for South Staffordshire PCT.
