Contraceptive Implant (Implanon NXT) Education and Simulation Course - Online modules and live virtual simulation
This course is designed to deliver high quality Implanon NXT training in an efficient way.
Online modules (1.5 hours) include all key aspects of Implanon NXT theory including videos demonstrating positioning the patient, marking the insertion site, inserting and removing Implanon NXT and a demonstration of the simulation technique. The live virtual simulation session is provided 1:1 using simulation equipment posted to you. An experienced trainer who will observe your technique in real time and provide individualised feedback in the 20 minute zoom session. Simulation equipment will be provided with reply paid postage included in course costs.
Course content
The online modules will cover aspects such as:
- Composition and mechanism of action
- Efficacy
- Side effects including bleeding patterns and guidance of management
- Patient suitability, contraindications and medication interactions
- Timing of initiation of contraception
- Insertion procedure, including anatomical considerations
- Removal procedure
- Reinsertion procedures
- Post procedure patient advice
- Advice for complex implants such as deeply inserted implants
- Expert tips
The simulation session will cover:
- Implanon NXT insertion
- Implanon NXT removal
- Guidance and feedback on technique
Online modules are required to be completed prior to attending the live virtual simulation practice session.
Eligibility
This course is open to doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and midwives.
Evidence of current national registration through Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency will be required as part of registration process.
Outcomes
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for Implanon NXT education and simulation practice. The session includes feedback on simulation procedure technique but does not include a formal competency assessment. The certificate may be used as evidence of attendance at training.
