In addition to causing great suffering to patients, HAIs can also impact healthcare resources. Most HAIs are potentially preventable adverse events, rather than unpredictable complications in health (CEC, 2022)

This comprehensive Infection series gives you access to four individual CPD modules that can be completed at your own pace. Each module addresses an important aspect of comprehensive infection prevention and management.

Infection Prevention and Control

In this module, you will learn about the responsibilities of health care workers as well as health service organisations to prevent infections. You will learn about the ‘chain of infection’ and actions to break the chain in a healthcare environment as well as apply the principles of infection prevention and risk management to your current nursing practice.

Sepsis

In this module, you will learn to identify the early signs and symptoms of sepsis and how to initiate timely and appropriate interventions. You will develop decision-making skills in relation to the care and management of the patient with sepsis based on current evidence-based guidelines and principles.

Antimicrobial Stewardship in Aged Care

In this module, you will learn how antibiotic resistance occurs and its impact on patients and the wider community. You will also gain a thorough understanding of the current professional, ethical, and legal frameworks around Antimicrobial Stewardship and how they can be implemented effectively into clinical practice.

Wound Management Overview

In this module, you will review the anatomy, physiology and functions of the skin and the principles and phases of wound healing. You will also identify factors that impede and promote wound healing. You will learn how to conduct skin and wound assessments and how to apply management strategies based on current evidence-based principles.
