Composite Restorations course for Dental Practice
This session will discuss composite resin as a direct restorative material. It will also explain its composition and how it can be optimally used as a direct restorative material.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- List the qualities a composite resin should possess
- Explain how a composite resin’s performance may vary depending upon its composition
- List the clinical steps that should be followed to obtain optimum performance
The aim of this session is to explain how composite resins are made up and how manufacturers optimise their various properties for clinical use.
Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of:
- Enamel bonding
- Dentine bonding
Richard qualified from the University of Manchester in 1989.
After eight years in general practice, he was awarded a Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship in 1998 and entered the Graduate Program in Prosthodontics at Tokyo Medical and Dental University. Richard graduated with a PhD in 2003 and returned to London to take up a clinical teaching position at King’s College London Dental Institute and as a Dental Practitioner for Tower Hamlets PCT. He was a Vocational Dental Trainer for one year and obtained the Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2004.
Richard completed Specialist training in Restorative Dentistry, including Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Endodontics at Guy’s Hospital and obtained the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship examination in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2014.
Richard is currently a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry at King’s College London Dental Institute. He has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications, several book chapters and two books and is an Associate Editor of Journal of Prosthodontic Research, Official Journal of Japan Prosthodontic Society.
