The aim of this session is to provide clinically relevant information surrounding the initial and follow-up encounters in first contact practice primary care consultations. This will include aspects of communication, clinical reasoning and the use of social prescribing through real case study examples.

By the end of the session you should be able to:

  • Develop communication styles using ideas, concerns and expectations (ICE) framework
  • Develop pattern recognition and adductive reasoning skills to strategically elicit, identify and manage patients who present with multi-morbid and complex conditions
  • Create links between physiological, psychological, social and pathological contexts
  • Understand the wider aspects of social care including the third sectors
  • Increase your confidence in the effective sign-posting of patients with complex conditions whilst reflecting on one’s own scope of practice
