Communication and Record Keeping course for General Practitioners
This session will help you to identify the way in which records are used to promote multi-agency working in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Define and list the different types of record used in the Healthy Child Programme
- Outline the rationale for retaining and maintaining clinical records
- Outline the essential features of effective record keeping and documentation
- Describe ways in which records can promote multi-agency working
- Use a record audit tool in practice to support effective communication in the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme
This session should be completed in conjunction with the following two Healthy Child Programme sessions in module about communication, record keeping and inter-professional working:
- 02_02 Using Record Keeping to Promote Multi-agency Working (402-0004)
- 02_03 Using the Personal Child Health Record (PCHR) (402-0005)
Part 1 and part 2 are aimed at the health visitor and registered nurse members of the health visitor team. However, it will also be relevant, interesting and useful to others who are involved in caring for children and families e.g. allied healthcare professionals, non-qualified practitioners.
Rita Newland is Senior Lecturer in the Public Health, Primary Care and Food Policy Department at City University London, where she is Programme Director for the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (health visitor and school nurse) and Primary Care (district nurse) programmes.
