Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Identify the features of neuropathic pain in patients
  • Describe the aetiology and pathophysiology of conditions that may cause neuropathic pain
  • List the potential treatments appropriate to the management of conditions that may cause neuropathic pain

Post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) and painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (PDPN) are the most common neuropathic conditions encountered in clinical practice and the prevalence of patients with PHN and PDPN is increasing due to an increase in disease prevalence.
