By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • 3.3.1 List the advantages and disadvantages of CHC methods
  • 3.3.2 Describe possible side-effects of CHC methods
  • 3.3.3 List contraindications to CHC methods
  • 3.3.4 Conduct an effective consultation with a woman considering a CHC, start methods of CHC safely
  • 3.3.5 Conduct a safe repeat CHC consultation

CHC remains a popular choice of contraception in the UK. It is important that individuals are supported to make a fully informed decision on whether to commence CHC following discussion around the risks, benefits and potential side-effects of these methods. A full assessment should be undertaken to ensure the individual is eligible to commence CHC, followed by clear instructions on how to use her chosen method.
