This session intends to highlight the principle methods of caries prevention.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • List the reasons why saliva flow is important in caries prevention
  • Describe the importance of diet in caries prevention
  • Describe the role of fluoride in prevention of caries
  • Explain the importance of plaque control in caries prevention
  • Demonstrate the delivery of caries preventative advice to patients

Caries is a key to every dentists' working practice. The prevention of caries is an integral part of oral health promotion.

Zehra Yonel,
Oral Surgeon

Following graduation from the University of Birmingham, Zehra worked in general practice in the Birmingham area. She then spent a year as a restorative SHO in the Eastman Dental Hospital.

Following this, Zehra undertook an oral surgery post, with maxillofacial surgery on call commitments.

In addition to this, Zehra also treats both adult and paediatric patients with the adjunct of sedation, as a means of anxiety management.
