This session will discuss the diagnosis of caries and the management of occlusal caries.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Explain what caries is
  • List the surfaces of the tooth that are at risk
  • List the basic methods of caries detection
  • State the different management techniques for occlusal caries
  • Identify the patient's risk profile for caries
  • Describe the radiography guidelines for caries detection

The ability to accurately and efficiently diagnose caries is a skill that you will need throughout your career as a dentist. This session will look at the methods available to you for accurate diagnosis of caries to allow timely management and prevention of disease progression.

Following graduation from the University of Birmingham, Zehra worked in general practice in the Birmingham area. She then spent a year as a restorative SHO in the Eastman Dental Hospital.

Following this, Zehra undertook an oral surgery post, with maxillofacial surgery on call commitments.

In addition to this, Zehra also treats both adult and paediatric patients with the adjunct of sedation, as a means of anxiety management.
