This session will focus on the management of acute medical emergencies. The aim of this session is to give primary care practitioners the confidence to deal with these emergencies safely and confidently.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Explain how to manage a compromised airway
  • Recognise immediate life-threatening conditions
  • Describe the effective management of hypovolaemic shock
  • Describe how to administer adequate analgesia to the trauma victim

Knowledge of BLS is necessary and mandatory in professions that deal with the general public. Examples of these professions include police officers, teachers and fire fighters.
