AVIF0039 Utilise emergency breathing system (EBS)

This course is for HUET qualified individuals working in the aviation industry including air crew, marine pilots, firefighters, policing personnel and aviation medical professionals.
About EBS Training
EBS Training provides you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to successfully escape from a submerged aircraft whilst utilising compressed air. Our custom designed simulator replicates the wide range of conditions and challenges you may encounter in a real emergency, ensuring you have the skills needed to save your own life and those of others. Graduates of this course receive a Statement of Attainment for unit AVIF0039 Utilise emergency breathing system upon successful completion.
You'll learn- About different types of EBS and their characteristics
- How to deal with malfunctions
- EBS clearing operations
- How to conduct before flight and after flight checks and procedures
- How to safely breathe compressed air
- How to use an EBS in an inverted position to safely exit a submerged helicopter
- Upright submersion
- Underwater inversion
- Night time simulation (blindfold)
- Combination day and night simulation
- Secondary exits (cross cabin procedures)
Our generic underwater escape training simulators have been specifically designed and certified to instruct you on how to escape a submerged aircraft using a range of different exits.
They carry up to six students in a replica cockpit and rear area and feature sliding doors, push out windows and doors with a jettison facility, to recreate the conditions you would encounter in the field.
If you are unable to swim or have a fear of water or confined spaces, please advise us so we can tailor the course accordingly.
AssessmentThe course includes both a practical and theoretical component.
The practical component will be assessed through observation of your performance in the simulator, where you’ll use Emergency Breathing Systems in a variety of escape situations.
The theoretical component will be assessed using a written questionnaire at the end of the course.
Once you’ve passed both components, you’ll receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. Statements of Attainment will be issued within 30 days of achieving competency.
