Antenatal Care course for GPs
This session considers the antenatal care of a healthy pregnancy and associated health promotion. It also deals with 'expected' complications of pregnancy and highlights red flags that may indicate serious problems. This session was reviewed by Khyati Bakhai and last updated in July 2020.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Summarise the standard antenatal care schedule and routine screening
- Give examples of opportunistic health promotion for pregnant women
- Describe routine complications of a normal pregnancy
- Distinguish red flags that may signal pregnancy emergencies
Even in the best circumstances, pregnancy can be a challenge. During pregnancy, a woman is vulnerable and a great deal is expected of her, physically, mentally and emotionally.
