Session Overview
Description
This session contains a series of short revision tutorials using Multiple Choice Questions to assist candidates preparing for the Primary FRCA Examination.
MCQs written to Primary FRCA standard are used to provide a focused tutorial on important concepts and areas of the curriculum that candidates have difficulty with.
Not all areas tested in the examination are covered in these tutorials. For a comprehensive review please refer to the curriculum and e-Learning sessions within Module 07e.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the underlying principles of the oxygen vacuum insulated evaporator (VIE) including the concepts of critical temperature, pressure and latent heat
- Describe the behaviour of nitrous oxide (N2O) including isothermic charts
- Compare the functional properties of Mapleson A and D breathing systems
- Explain the principals of the Circle system including carbon dioxide absorption
- Succinctly classify the key artificial ventilatory modalities
- This session provides a series of tutorials and multiple-choice questions (MCQ) which have been written to Primary FRCA standards. This session is aimed at assisting candidates to prepare for the Primary FRCA examinations and provides content on topics candidates often find difficult to grasp.
This session does not cover all topics tested in the Primary FRCA examination. For comprehensive examination preparation please refer to the curriculum of e-learning sessions within Module 07e.
Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should complete the following:
- Module 07e/Gas Supplies/Sources of central gas supply (001-0895)
- Module 07e/Gas Supplies/Piped gas supply (001-0897)
- Module 07e/Breathing systems/Mapleson classification (001-0902)
- Module 07e/Breathing systems/Circle system (001-0903)
- Module 07e/Ventilators/Classification and function of ventilators (001-0911)
- Module 01/Equipment Essentials/Ventilators/Principles of IPPV (001-0064)
This session provides three revision tutorials on selected topics related to gas supplies, breathing systems and ventilators.
Each tutorial within this session begins with some ‘pre-tutorial MCQs’ to test your existing knowledge. This is followed by the revision tutorial during which we will cover the knowledge required to answer these and other similar MCQs.
The tutorials end with some ‘post-tutorial MCQs’ to re-test your understanding of the topic.
This format is repeated for each of the areas covered within this session.
