By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Give an overview of organ support in critical care
- Explain the problem-based approach for the critically-ill patient
- List commonly used terminology in organ support
- Give examples of ethical aspects of organ support
Many intensive care patients have complex disease processes, often on a background of multiple pre-existing pathologies.
A problem-based approach is used to analyze what is happening, looking at one organ system at a time, and then integrating the information to make a management plan.
