- Define a controlled ventilation technique for the maintenance of general anaesthesia

- Identify clinical circumstances in which a controlled ventilation technique is appropriate for maintenance of general anaesthesia in children
- Describe the principles of conduct of intermittent positive pressure ventilation in children
- Identify which monitors are essential for controlled ventilation
- Describe the characteristics of an ideal paediatric ventilator
- Demonstrate this knowledge when anaesthetizing paediatric patients of all ages

Before commencing this session you should have a good knowledge of:
- Paediatric anatomy and physiology relevant to anaesthesia (including neonates)
- Anaesthetic equipment
- Maintenance of the airway during anaesthesia
- Induction of anaesthesia
