This session describes the diagnosis, treatment and pathophysiology of delirium in critical care patients.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the process of screening for, and of diagnosing, delirium
  • Identify the risk factors that are important in development of delirium
  • Describe the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of delirium including prevention strategies
  • List the short- and long-term effects of delirium

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should:

  • Have an understanding of the general process of management of ICU patients
