Description
This session describes the current concepts of normal coagulation, up to the formation of a fibrin clot.

Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the components of blood and the vessels important in haemostasis in a steady state
  • Explain the recruitment of platelets to the vessel wall and the formation of a platelet plug
  • Explain both the initiation of coagulation through activation of coagulation factors by tissue factor and platelet plug formation
  • Describe the stabilization of the platelet plug by fibrin formation

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should:

  • Have knowledge of basic enzyme reactions, cofactors and enzyme system amplification
